Vacant Former American Press Institute HQ Could Become Condos, Townhouses

Developer Sekas Homes has plans in the works for a townhouse and condo development across from the Reston National Golf Course.

The residential development would be at Sunrise Valley Drive and Roland Clarke Place, just east of Reston Heights. Sekas is seeking a zoning change to make the project come to life, RestonNow reports.

Sekas hopes to rezone the 4.6-acre project site from industrial use to residential. The project site is home to the former HQ of the American Press Institute, a 48k SF building that has been vacant for some time, and would be demolished if the project gets the go-ahead from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

Plans call for 34 four-story townhomes and 10 condos, which would range in size from 1,170 SF to 1,600 SF. Four of the units would be designated for workforce housing, while 12% would be set aside as affordable housing. Residents of the proposed development would be members of the Reston Association.

The project site is just up the road from the Wiehle-Reston Metro station, and the latest project proposal submitted for the burgeoning area. Earlier this year, Wiehle Station Ventures submitted plans for a 260-unit residential building near Lincoln Commerce Park. [RN]
