A 250-foot-tall multifamily building has just been proposed across from the future Purple Line stop in Downtown Bethesda

Saul Centers filed plans for a 390-unit residential building with 11K SF of retail on the site at 7316 Wisconsin Ave. NW, UrbanTurf reports

The multifamily high-rise would replace a five-story office building that was built in 1969. Saul Centers acquired the property for $35.5M earlier this year.

The developer is working with Torti Gallas + Partners as the architect, and one released rendering of the building looks like something one might find in a Batman comic book, complete with bat signal-esque spotlights. The team will present its plans Wednesday to the Bethesda Downtown Design Advisory Panel.

The project at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Hampden Lane is across the street from the site of the former Apex Building, which Carr Properties is developing into two high-rise towers with 460 residential units and 360K SF of office space. That project will sit above the future terminus of the Purple Line, which will run from Bethesda to New Carrollton when it opens in 2022.
