Monument’s Chinatown Mixed-Use Redesign

A Chinatown development once described as "too aggressive" is finally moving forward after months of revisions. Gallery Tower (pictured) is a Hickok Cole-designed development by Monument Realty that will feature an almost 80k SF, 11-story office building with 19k SF of retail. A single-story glass-enclosed pedestrian walkway will connect the building's two towers. The project will involve renovating a cluster of nine Chinatown buildings and demolishing a five-story warehouse, reports District Source. In the new proposal Monument addressed HPRB concerns about the size of the pedestrian bridge and the massive appearance of the towers, winning HPRB support pending approval from the Mayor's Agent and a final design review from the board. Construction is slated to start toward the end of this year. [DS]
