The site of the Iwo Jima Best Western Hotel in Rosslyn could soon be developed into a mixed-use project with a hotel, apartments and retail.

Witness Hospitality and Grant Investment Properties filed plans with Arlington County to construct a two-building development with 150 hotel rooms, 64 apartments and ground-floor retail on the site, UrbanTurf reports

The development would take the place of the Best Western hotel at 1501 Arlington Blvd. and the four-story Ellis Arms Apartments next door at 1523 Fairfax Drive. It is about a half-mile south of the Rosslyn Metro station.

The plan calls for a 12-story hotel with a pool, a fitness center and a rooftop event space, plus a 10-story apartment building with units ranging from studios to two-bedrooms. The developers aim to bring a gourmet grocer into the project's ground-floor retail.

The team presented the plans Monday to Arlington County's Site Plan Review Committee, which plans to vote on the project in November.
