The site of the 40-year-old J.R.'s Stockyards Inn in Tysons could soon become a high-rise residential tower.

The owners of the restaurant and banquet facility filed an application with Fairfax County to build a 23-story development with up to 264 multifamily units, the Washington Business Journal reports

The 1.18-acre site at 8130 Watson St. sits in between the Greensboro and Tysons Corner Center Metro stations, just two blocks from the Tysons Corner Center mall.

The developer, listed as JRs@Tysons LLC, retained KGD Architecture to design the project. It would also include 5,300 SF of ground-floor retail, a 5,283 SF public space and three levels of underground parking. The tower would have a 23-story wing and an 11-story wing, with a recreational plaza on the shorter rooftop and a pool and 990 SF amenity room on the higher rooftop.

J.R.'s Stockyards Inn opened in 1978 as a fine dining steakhouse. The restaurant closed in 2011, but the owners kept the property open as a catering operation and banquet facility.

In its application, the owners said they spent over a decade assembling the property and tried to acquire the adjacent Capital One branch site and the Cleary Vision site to increase the size of the development, but were unable to close the deals.
