Meridian Group, Kettler Pitch The Boro In Tysons For Amazon HQ2
The developers of The Boro, the 15-acre Tysons development currently in the works, have pitched the site as a landing spot for Amazon's HQ2.
Meridian Group and Kettler submitted a proposal for the 4.2M SF mixed-use project near the Greensboro Metro, plus some adjacent properties, to be considered for the tech giant's new $5B campus, the Washington Business Journal reports.
The Boro broke ground in September 2016 and has already signed major retail anchors such as a 70K SF Whole Foods, the region's largest, and a Showplace Icon movie theater. It has also lured office tenants, with media company Tegna signing on for 60K SF and law firm Hogan Lovells taking 45K SF.
New York-based Rockefeller Group in August came on as a partner for Boro Tower, the 20-story office building where both tenants signed.
Amazon is ultimately seeking a total of 8M SF, but not all of that has to be ready immediately. To accomodate the tech giant, Meridian's proposal included 570K SF in Boro Tower, 150K SF that Science Applications International Corp. is vacating, and another 80K SF at Boro's loft office building. The proposal also included the four-building Tysons Metro Center, a 764K SF office park Meridian acquired in February.
While the developers submitted the proposal on behalf of their property, it is not Fairfax County's official Amazon HQ2 bid. The county teamed up with Loudoun County to propose the 26-acre Center for Innovative Technology campus near Dulles International Airport.
