Amazon Web Services Wants To Build A 44-Acre Loudoun Data Center Campus

The Quarry Commerce Center plan calls for three buildings on the site, which sits along Route 50 between Tall Cedars Parkway and Pleasant Valley Road. The site is just 7 miles from the 26-acre Center for Innovative Technology campus that Loudoun County pitched for the Amazon HQ2 competition.
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to vote Tuesday on the proposal, with the Planning Commission recommending approval.
The campus would grow the Loudoun County footprint of Amazon Web Services, which last year signed a 400K SF lease to fill a Herndon office building. Amazon's total footprint in the D.C.-Baltimore region has skyrocketed from 200K SF in 1999 to roughly 6.6M SF in 2017, according to Transwestern's 2018 TrendLines report, with that growth driven largely by NoVa data center space.
Amazon is not the only big-name tech company to pitch a big Loudoun data center expansion in recent months. Google in November bought 148 acres in Ashburn and Leesburg to build two data centers. The county's data center market has been booming in recent years, with Ashburn quickly becoming a national data center hub.
