LeBron James Meets Julia Child At New Capitol Riverfront Amenities

Demonstration kitchens and basketball courts are some of the uber-cool amenities at the Capitol Riverfront. As each new building tries to top the next (nine properties are on their way at the Riverfront), you'll want to keep track by joining us at our On the Waterfront: A Detailed Look at DC's Booming Capitol Riverfront & Southwest Waterfront, June 11 starting at 7:30am.

The large demo kitchen will be at WC Smith's 800 New Jersey Ave project, delivering Q1 2017 at the Capitol Riverfront. The 336-unit development will sit over a Whole Foods, a logical companion to a demonstration kitchen, says SVP Brad Fennell. Plus, DC is officially a foodie hub. (Branding idea: Obamacarrots.) This is one of three residential projects Brad, one of our speakers next week, is overseeing. All three will total 1,150 units.

The demonstration kitchen will be shared with its neighbor, Park Chelsea, another WC Smith project. The 429-unit project delivers in the fall and will share its unique feature: a full-sized indoor lap pool, connected to a locker room, steam rooms and a yoga studio. Brad says both amenities will help attract the mix of young professionals and empty nesters moving to urban residential markets.

A third residential building, delivering in 2018 or later, will include a full-sized basketball court, says Brad. Rents will go to the top of the market, beyond $3/SF. We’ll have many more speakers and projects to talk about at our On the Waterfront event at Arena Stage. Sign up to hear more.
