Sunnyvale-based 3D imaging company Matterport has bought London real estate virtual reality firm Virtual Walkthrough for an undisclosed price. Virtual Walkthrough allows users to tour properties through VR technology.

The purchase is a part of a wider European push by Matterport, reports the Silicon Valley Business Journal. Virtual Walkthrough is expected to become a wholly owned subsidiary, and its 200 clients should see no drastic changes.

Matterport CEO Bill Brown called the transaction a “natural fit,” citing similar company cultures and technology. He said Matterport could now serve international clients.

The Sunnyvale company was founded in 2010 and reportedly raised $56M in venture financing.

VR technology has the potential to help real estate professionals cut down on the travel times and hassle of on-site property visits. [SVBJ]
