Cupertino Group Looks to Thwart Sand Hill Redevelopment

Placeholder

A Cupertino group is working against Sand Hill Property Co's redevelopment of Vallco Shopping Mall.

Cupertino Residents for Sensible Growth plans to start a petition to restore the Vallco Shopping District as a shopping and entertainment center and remove office and residential components. The group also wants to amend the Cupertino General Plan to limit the height of most buildings to 45 feet.

Sand Hill Property plans a mixed-use development of 800 residential units, 2M SF of office space and 625k SF of retail beneath a 30-acre massive green roof called The Hills at Vallco, according to the Silicon Valley Business Journal. The group's initiative could block those plans while also mostly restricting future development on the city's main corridors to three stories.

To get on the ballot, the petition needs to collect verified signatures of 10% of Cupertino registered voters. [SVBJ]
