SF Motors has leased 136K SF in Milpitas, taking an entire building at McCarthy Creekside. The company will become the first tenant at McCarthy Ranch’s industrial development. The SF Motors facility will become operational in the fourth quarter, the East Bay Times reports.

The electric vehicle manufacturer will use the facility to develop the company’s proprietary battery, e-powertrain and autonomous driving technologies. Activities at the Milpitas facility will include testing verification of its technologies, development of manufacturing processes, trial production and low-volume manufacturing, according to a press release.

Once completed, the McCarthy Creekside complex will have six buildings with over 800K SF for research, industrial and manufacturing and 6K SF of retail.

CBRE Executive Vice President Chip Sutherland, Senior Vice Presidents Vince Machado and Ben Knight and associate Anthony Podesta arranged the lease.

SF Motors has R&D facilities in Santa Clara, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Germany.

The company’s first models for its electric vehicles will be called SF5 and are expected to be available starting in 2019. Trial production of its vehicles will begin in Indiana and China. The company will target a total capacity of 200,000 units each year.
