Seattle tourism continues to improve, posting an increase in visitation in 2017 for the eighth consecutive year, according to a Marcus & Millichap Hospitality Regional Research Report.

Seattle’s overnight visitation grew by 3.9% in 2017 over the same period the prior year. In addition, the Port of Seattle is estimating another record year in cruise passengers. The report expects additional room demand to come from business travelers who visit the metro area for meetings and interviews.

The Northwest’s occupancy rate rose to 64.4% this year after increasing 30 basis points in 2017.

In other parts of the Northwest, the report estimates that Oregon lost $51M in tourism revenue last year as visitors changed travel plans due to wildfires. Large portions of the Columbia River Gorge remained closed after the Eagle Creek fire caused significant damage in 2017.
