University Christian Church, built in 1927, is on the market.

University Christian Church is in the process of selling its 32K SF site in the  U-District. The 48,400 SF church was built in 1927 and has a 2018 tax appraisal value of $12M. The land is appraised at $8.8M. The church is at 4731 15th Ave. NE.

Church members voted earlier this year to sell the church due to declining membership and an inability to financially support operations of the building. It is considered seismically fragile, according to a church statement.

Proceeds from the sale will go to a church foundation that furthers its mission.

“While the sale of our existing house of worship is bittersweet, we look forward to continuing UCC’s legacy through the new foundation, which will benefit causes near-and-dear to our congregation’s heart,” University Christian Church congregational president Laura Robinson said in a statement.

The remaining church members will merge with a congregation in Lake City to form a new church called Journey Christian Church.
