Gusto, an employee benefits company, has moved into its new 50K SF office at Historic Pier 70, which was redeveloped by Orton Development. The Gensler-designed office at 113 20th St. was built inside a former machine shop and features an open office floor plan, a 40-foot mural that employees painted and shoes are not allowed.

Gusto employees were involved during each stage of the office build-out, and the company used virtual reality to provide a preview for current and future employees to tour before move in.

Gusto kept the gantry cranes and driver cabs of the former Union Iron Works machine shop, which repaired ships as early as the 19th Century.

Gusto co-founder and CEO Josh Reeves paints part of the 40-foot long mural that decorates the office's all-hands space where the company hold meetings. The mural, which dozens of employees painted, showcases the different types of small businesses the company serves.
