A new survey of Planning Department data puts the overall housing pipeline in San Francisco at roughly 55,000 units, up from 50,000 at the end of last year. For some perspective, about 3,000 units were completed last year and only 27,000 units total have been added since 2000. There are 8,100 net-new units under construction and another 5,600 that could soon begin construction. Further down the pipeline, there are 28,300 units approved, but have overall timelines measured in decades. This number includes 10,500 units planned by Candlestick and another 7,800 on Treasure Island. On top of all of the above, the Planning Department has 12,600 units under review[SS]
