Prado, SKS Hone Plans for Laurel Heights

Prado Group and SKS Investments shared their vision this week for turning the UCSF Laurel Heights campus into a mix of housing and open space.

The developers met with community members earlier this week to discuss ideas for the existing 350k SF building. The site will likely be surrounded by housing, retail and office space that blends with the existing community. The developers plan to file a preliminary proposal with the Planning Department by the end of the year.

The university started looking at development opportunities for the site in 2012 as it considered consolidating campuses to save on operating costs. SKS and Prado signed a 99-year ground lease with UCSF at the end of 2014 with a five-year lease-back agreement.

While the site is zoned for up to 745 new units, the developers haven't set a number yet. There will be more community meetings later this year once the team of five architecture firms draws up design proposals. Construction is set for 2018. [Curbed]
