Redwood City To Reconsider SyRes' Pared Down Mixed-Use Project

SyRes Properties resubmitted plans to redevelop a 15-acre site along Redwood City's shoreline into 100k SF of commercial space and 336 units. The developer previously submitted plans for a 550-unit project, but it stalled last year after city officials found the higher number of units would require further research and rezoning the site as high-density development, reports the San Francisco Business Times.

Redwood City project planner Lisa Costa-Sanders said the project is being considered “conceptual” at this point. The city will restart the Environmental Impact Report soon, but there is no word on the entitlement process.

The site at 557 East Bayshore Road, which used to hold a Century 12 Theater, will include a VillaSport Athletic Club and Spa, a chain run by SyRes parent company Syufys. The club will include two indoor pools, two outdoor pools, two basketball courts, racquetball courts, a child care center, a spa and several exercise studios, according to planning documents.

The apartment complex will offer one- and two-bedroom units as well as several amenities, including a business center, a fitness center, a club lounge, a bike shop, a pool, fire pits and outdoor kitchens. The entire project will be two to five stories high.

The Century 12 Theater closed in 2003 and the site has remained vacant since 2008. [SFBT]
