Former San Jose Lumber Yard Poised For Mixed-Use Conversion

A former San Jose lumber yard (now leased as a used-car lot) that sits near one of the city's future BART stations could transform into a mixed-use development in the coming years.

The owner of the site at 1260 E Santa Clara St has submitted a development proposal to the city that would create a seven-story, mixed-use building with 418 apartments and 30k SF of commercial space.

The site is also near the VTA's bus rapid transit project, which could be completed next year. The planned Alum Rock BART station may not begin construction until 2025 or later, according to the San Francisco Business Times.

Other projects are underway for areas around Silicon Valley BART stations near completion, such as Fremont's Warm Springs, Milpitas' Great Mall and San Jose's Berryessa. This proposal would be the first for development near the proposed Alum Rock station. [SFBT]
