Tesla Wants 4.6M SF More Space In Fremont

Tesla plans to add 4.6M SF spanning 11 structures next to its 4.5M SF factory in Fremont. The 250-acre expansion would allow the electric car manufacturer to ramp up production to 500,000 cars per year and hire over 3,000 more workers. Tesla currently employs 6,200 and produces 100,000 cars each year, reports the San Francisco Business Times.

The expansion would more than double the company’s factory space in Fremont to 9.1M SF and bring it even closer to meeting its goal of building 1 million cars by 2020.

Tesla's expansion proposal will go before the City of Fremont's Planning Commission on Thursday. [SFBT]
