As a result, senior living accommodations are becoming more popular among older generations, with everything from active adult communities to assisted living facilities and nursing homes gaining traction. In the Northeast alone, independent living occupancy rates ticked up to 93% and assisted living occupancy increased to 90% in Q4 2025.

<content:encoded><![CDATA[While the artificial intelligence sector is booming across the country with data center campuses and office spaces, the longtime tech hub of Greater Boston is trailing its rivals. 
Since 2020, $578B in venture capital has been poured into AI companies — with three-fourths of that invested in the last two years — and 80% of those funds have gone to companies in San Francisco, according to CBRE. 
Boston has for years been a leading market for tech startups, particularly in the biotech space, but Cushman & Wakefield reported that the city captured just 8% of AI funding in 2025.

LNR paid $95M for the Park Square Building at 31 St. James Ave. at a foreclosure auction in March after it had been managing the asset as the special servicer. It brought on Eastdil Secured to begin marketing the building for sale this week, Bisnow has learned.]]></content:encoded>

Closure announcements over the past month from Hampshire College and Anna Maria College in Western Massachusetts are the latest in a wave of shuttered small colleges that have left campuses unused.  
Nearly 300 colleges and universities closed between 2008 and 2023, according to The Hechinger Report. And more than 400 additional private, nonprofit four-year colleges and universities — most of which are small and rural — are expected to close over the next decade, Huron Consulting Group projects.

At the end of the first quarter, BXP had leased 1.1M SF across 68 transactions. The firm's central business district portfolio was 89.9% occupied and 93.4% leased, according to the REIT's Q1 earnings report.

The metro area's leasing volume and demand in the first quarter shot up 73% and 83%, respectively, from the same quarter in 2025, according to JLL. A handful of these deals were major tenants reentering the market after several years of holding off, JLL Senior Managing Director Michael Ciummei said.

Boston City Councilors Sharon Durkan and Henry Santana filed a proposed text amendment that would eliminate off-street parking minimums for new residential construction during the Boston City Council's Wednesday meeting.
