Construction On First Phase Of Philly's Rail Park Is Underway

The Rail Park, a multi-phase project to convert the long-defunct Reading Railroad into a long green space, is finally under construction.

Although AP Construction broke ground on the first phase, which goes along Callowhill Street from Broad to between 12th and 11th streets, back in October, it's spent the intervening time on site analysis. Ground was officially broken on Jan. 4, according to Center City District's Facebook page.

Center City District, which is partnering with Friends of the Rail Park and the City of Philadelphia to maintain the park, is still about $700k short of the $10.3M it needs to complete the park. To close that gap, CCD has been putting on fundraising happy hours at Trestle Inn and has a crowdfunding website.
