Anaheim Bans Airbnb

Placeholder

After sparking years of debate among residents, Airbnb and other short-term rentals have been banned in Anaheim.

The Anaheim City Council voted last week in favor of the ban.

The owners of short-term rentals, some of whom were stunned by the vote, will have 18 months to stop operating, according to the Orange County Register.

There are 363 permitted short-term rentals in Anaheim.

Local residents had complained about vacationers holding all-night parties and taking up parking spaces while short-term rental owners said they brought in revenue for the city and helped increase home values.

Airbnb has run into its share of challenges, with the home-sharing firm involved in legal battles with the City of San Francisco and facing regulation in LA. [OCR]
