Undaunted By Puerto Rico's Financial Mess, Its Hospitality Industry Blazes Ahead

“As you can imagine, things are a bit crazy here,” said Emilio Colón-Zavala, president of ECZ Group and head of the Puerto Rico Builders' Association, this month — even though it has been almost a year since Hurricane Maria slammed his homeland.

Hospital Execs: Healthcare Today Must Be 'Efficient, Low-Cost And Delivered Like You're Going To The Ritz'

Julienne Gage

Carlos Migoya is widely credited with having turned around the finances and reputation of Miami's public hospital system, Jackson Health, as its president and CEO. He inherited an $82M/year loss when he came on board in 2011 and produced an $8M surplus the following year, then $50M+ in subsequent years.

So many insured or paying patients began choosing the public hospital over its competitors that Migoya has had to fend off criticism that Jackson is not serving enough of the poor and uninsured.

At Bisnow's State of South Florida Healthcare and Senior Living event last week in Fort Lauderdale, where Migoya was the keynote speaker, he and other healthcare executives said they are meeting the demands of today's complicated healthcare industry with new…

Real Estate Strategy Drives Fast Growth For Big-Box Retailer At Home

Home-décor retailer At Home Group is defying big-box trends by going on an expansion tear.

Strongly anchored in its home base of Dallas-Fort Worth, which is getting three new At Home locations, the company is implementing a strategy to expand the brand nationally to 600 stores, including opening about 15 new stores this year.

“Our goal is to be growing our store base by 20% a year, and that's what we've been doing,” Vice President of Real Estate Dean Zurmely said. “It's a great time to be in real estate at this company. It's a little bit odd because there aren't many big-box [retailers] that are expanding.”
