Population Explosion Spurs Castle Rock Development

EastWest Managing Partner Chris Frampton on tenants and rents at Bisnow Multifamily Annual Conference: Rocky Mountain Series.

Castle Rock's population explosion has attracted the attention of developers who are eager to provide residences, offices and recreation opportunities to meet the needs of the town's residents.

The town's population has doubled in size every decade for the last four decades, reaching a total of 65,000 people. It is expected to reach 130,000 people by 2030. But even as other communities have increased the number of residences…

The Opioid Epidemic Is Turning Commercial Buildings Into Deadly Hazmat Zones, And No One Knows What To Do About It

Imagine this: a custodial crew walks into a hotel room or an office bathroom to find the victim of a drug overdose dead on the floor.

Hours later, a custodian passes out, and someone who used that hotel room or office bathroom is experiencing breathing problems. If they don't get medical attention soon, they might die, too.

That scene is playing out more frequently, in places from New England to Canada to California — a threat few, if any, are prepared to face.

It might seem easy to turn a blind eye to the opioid epidemic, but North American commercial real estate is having to face the latest deadly phase of this public health crisis: fentanyl. Unlike heroin and other opioids, when fentanyl…

More Places, More Ways: Convene CEO Ryan Simonetti On What's Driving The Company's Growth

A few days after New York-based Convene announced it had raised a $152M Series D round, co-founder and CEO Ryan Simonetti took a break inside the company's newest location at the Wells Fargo Center in downtown Los Angeles.

The 36-year-old had just finished a series of on-camera and media interviews and there were more to come. Another television crew was setting up and waiting in another room.

Convene, which partners with landlords and provides meeting, event, coworking and flexible workspace, has grown tremendously since Simonetti and co-founder Chris Kelly started the company in 2009 in New York. Simonetti sat down with Bisnow to talk about what is driving that growth.

The Mind-Bending Impact Of Brexit Stockpiling On U.K. Logistics

It is 2018, not 1938, but the U.K. is talking about stockpiling again.

That could drive demand for tens of millions of square feet of storage, but would come with a lot of pain.

The obvious implication for real estate is the effect upon the logistics sector, and on the face of it, this should be good news — the potential need for new space if goods have to be stored for longer in the U.K. to account for slower supply chains could be huge.

However, as always with Brexit, the matter is not that simple. The users of logistics space are clearly starting to make plans for what happens if they need to stockpile. But investors and developers would be taking a substantial risk if they started to adjust their plans now to try and capitalize on this.
