The groundbreaking ceremony for 99 Hudson St in Jersey City kicked off Thursday, marking the beginning of what will soon be the tallest building in the state and one of the tallest residential buildings in the country.

The 900-foot-tall mixed-use condominium tower will house 781 residential units in its 79 stories, along with 15k SF of retail space and 14k SF of public space.

Mayor Steven Fulop tells NY Yimby the project will “remake the Jersey City skyline,” as part of the ongoing “renaissance of Jersey City.”

All in all the development encompasses roughly 1.5M SF. The project was first announced last January, and construction is expected to wrap up in 2018. The building will open in 2019. [NYY]
