Developer Jeffrey Shemia Expands Midwood Properties

Midwood's Orthodox and immigrant communities are growing, and so are its buildings. Case in point: 1989 and 2003 Coney Island Ave, two buildings that are both experiencing some significant expansion.

2003 will gain three stories and go from 6,567 SF to 16k SF. The new five-story building will have 3,886 SF of street-level retail, and four stories of community facilities.

1989 is made up of three two-story buildings that will be combined and given an extra story. They'll get an additional 9.6k SF, totaling 27,913 SF. The renovated building will have 9,913 SF of street-level retail and 18k SF of community facilities.

Developer Jeffrey Shemia of HS Home Care purchased the buildings for $7.75M in January 2014. Garfinkel Architects is slated to design. [NYY]
