A former prison complex on Staten Island has a new future as a film and TV production facility.

Empire State Development announced Tuesday that it has closed a deal with Broadway Stages to permanently convert Arthur Kill Correctional Facility into a hub for sound stages and realistic prison settings for film and television. Broadway Stages plans to invest $20M in the conversion.

The 69-acre site was the subject of a request for proposals in May 2013, seeking potential owners for uses that would bring revenue and jobs to Staten Island. Broadway Stages was conditionally selected in 2014, and now that the agreement is official, it estimates the facility will bring 1,311 permanent jobs and 367 construction jobs to the site.

According to a representative from Broadway Stages, projects to be filmed at Arthur Kill include the TV shows "Quantico," "The Americans," "Blindspot," "The Blacklist" and "The Sinner," along with movies including "Ocean's 8" and "Brawl In Cell Block 9."
