Former Carnegie Deli Home Will Be Extell's Next Purchase

Placeholder

Extell Development is picking up a third potential development site on the block of Seventh Avenue between 54th and 56th streets, the former home of the famous Carnegie Deli at 854 Seventh Ave.

The deal is likely to close by the end of this week. The price for the six-story building isn’t known, but it may be less than the $9.1M Extell paid for the largely vacant building’s air rights in 2015, the New York Post reports.

Extell has big plans in the immediate area, including the Western Hemisphere’s second-tallest building (second only to 1 WTC, and only by a foot), as well as a 60-story hotel-condo project at 1710 Broadway.

It is not known what the prolific developer has in mind for the former site of one of the city’s most famous delis. [NYP]
