The Local Development Corporation of Crown Heights, a neighborhood nonprofit, will join BFC Partners as a co-developer of the Bedford Union Armory mixed-use development.

The LDCCH will help create a new affordable housing fund to advocate for tenants and provide housing education throughout the neighborhood, according to a press release.

The development hit a snag in January, when opposition from community groups demanding more local input and affordable housing prompted Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office to cancel a public hearing on how the project should go forward.

An earlier Freedom of Information Law request signed by Rep. Yvette Clarke, state Sen. Jesse Hamilton, and assembly members Diana Richardson and Walter Mosley asked for projected profits on the development, a timeline and penalties for "failing to live up to any of the terms of the agreement, including timeline, affordability of apartments, quality of construction, et cetera."

When complete, plans call for community facilities, including 67k SF of recreational space, as well as affordable office space and 330 residential units, 50% of which would be affordable.

The LDCCH will also help ensure that the project creates jobs locally, including in the construction process.
