New Amazon Store Will Eliminate The Entire Checkout Process

Amazon’s newest store format will use technology to completely eliminate the checkout process, making it the first store to successfully automate the entire buying process.

Amazon Go is set to open in Seattle early next year, Bloomberg reports. The system works by having customers sign into a new Amazon Go mobile app upon entering the store; the app then records the items shoppers take and simply charges their account when they leave.

Though many retailers have implemented alternative ways to expedite the checkout process and bypass long lines, Amazon could be the first to eliminate the checkout lines completely. This isn't the firm’s only recent innovation. In October the e-commerce behemoth announced plans to launch 20 convenience stores and curbside pickup locations next year. [Bloomberg]
