After Defeat In China, Uber Goes After India’s $10B Ride-Share Market

Uber is upping the fight in India against the country’s homegrown rival ANI Technologies Pvt’s Ola, and the ride-share behemoth isn’t doing too badly—the firm has more than tripled the number of rides per week it delivers since the beginning of the year.

The world’s most valuable startup unveiled its first brand campaign video in India last month, and it’s one of the many signs that Uber, after leaving China, is focusing its efforts on India, Bloomberg reports.

And Uber is closing the gap with Ola, reportedly operating in 28 Indian cities and handling around 5.5 million rides per week. After the US, India is the startup’s largest market, accounting for 12% of all rides the platform performs globally. [Bloomberg]
