Academy Of Art Under Fire From San Francisco

The City of San Francisco alleges multiple building code violations at properties owned by the Academy of Art University. Specifically, it has accused the company of illegally converting 33 properties in a portfolio of 40 into university housing.

San Francisco filed suit after negotiations with the Academy stalled, according to the San Francisco Business Times. City attorney Dennis Herrera blasted the company, saying it egregiously flouted the law in an effort to maintain its sizable real estate footprint.

Representatives for the Academy countered that its efforts were sincere and the case was “a waste of time," according to the San Francisco Examiner.
