Amazon Teams Up With Toyota To Create A Rolling Retail Concept

Retailers could soon be rolling up to their customers.

Toyota Motor Corp. is working with partners, including Amazon, to design an autonomous vehicle that would serve as a pop-up shop in the form of a restaurant, retail shop or even donation pickups, MarketWatch reports.

It is no secret that Amazon has caused a massive disruption in the retail sector with its growing dominance of the e-commerce market and acquisitions of large-scale companies such as Whole Foods. This latest initiative could prove to serve other retailers by offering them a more convenient and potentially less expensive method to sell products.

The fully customizable concept, which looks similar in structure to a food truck, is called the e-Palette. In addition to being able to modify the interior and exterior, retailers or restaurateurs will also be able to tailor the self-driving technology that comes with the vehicle.

Once the design has been finalized, the vehicle will come in three sizes with testing on the trucks slated to begin in early 2020 in the U.S.
