Florida Officials Approve Plan To Construct American Dream Miami, The Largest Mall In U.S.

What is anticipated to be the largest and most expensive mall built in the U.S. was just approved by Florida’s county commissioners. The project, American Dream Miami, will be on the outskirts of Miami on a 175-acre site in Miami-Dade County.

The mall is expected to cost about $4B to build, and would resemble more of a theme park than a traditional mall. The 6.2M SF retail and entertainment hub, developed by Canada’s Triple Five Worldwide Group based in Edmonton, Alberta, will feature a water park and “submarine lake,” ice-climbing walls, 2,000 hotel rooms and an indoor ski slope, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Triple Five has already received zoning approval for the site and is working to secure additional water and environmental permits for the project, the WSJ reports.

This is the largest project Triple Five has undertaken thus far. The developer has a portfolio of three North American malls, not including the American Dream Miami: Mall of America in Minnesota, West Edmonton Mall in Canada and American Dream Meadowlands, which is currently under construction in New Jersey.
