Homebuilding Confidence Continues To Slide

Homebuilder confidence fell for the third straight month according to a National Association of Home Builders survey released today. Sentiment regarding the new single-family home market declined by two points this month to 53 from 55 in February. Economists polled by the Wall Street Journal had predicted an uptick to 56 on the index. Confidence had been climbing steadily last year, reaching a peak of 59 last September. Despite the recent declines, the gauge is still in the relatively safe territory above 50. Still, the reading was especially disappointing given the arrival of the typically busy spring building period. [WSJ]
