Amazon To Build $1.5B Air Hub Outside Cincinnati For Cargo Planes

Amazon has moved one step closer to owning its entire distribution network. The king of e-commerce announced plans to build an air hub southwest of Cincinnati to support its growing fleet of cargo planes.

Amazon will invest nearly $1.5B to construct an air hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, where it will house the 16 planes that transport Amazon products throughout the country, Bloomberg reports. Expanding into transportation is one of the company’s most important maneuvers — it helps the firm deliver on its fast shipping promise while keeping costs in line.

Amazon said the new facility will employ 2,000 workers, helping Jeff Bezos keep his promise to make 100,000 new hires over the next year and a half. [Bloomberg]
