There Might Not Be Enough Labor For Trump To Make Good On His Energy Jobs Promise

Placeholder

There’s only one problem with Donald Trump’s promise to create millions of jobs through his energy policy—there’s a lack of labor.

The US labor supply is thinning, especially in the energy sector that’s struggling with a global oversupply of coal and oil that’s pushing prices down, Bloomberg reports. The entire energy sector employs under 630,000 people in the US, according to the Labor Department, making it unlikely the sector can add millions of jobs.

But a large part of Trump’s support comes from workers whose industries have suffered serious, long-term job losses, and while an expansive energy policy could add some jobs, it’s not likely to add as many as Trump promised. [Bloomberg]
