Future of Developments: 5B SF of Green Buildings Planned in the Next Five Years

Placeholder

The US Green Building Council is planning to build more than 5B SF of LEED and EDGE-rated SF over the next five years, the council revealed last week at the UN's climate negotiations conference.

LEED projects focus on organizing buildings so they save water and energy while reducing emissions. There are currently LEED certified buildings in more than 150 countries, with more than 1.85M SF of space certified daily.

Designed for emerging economies, EDGE—a green building certification system—helps design teams to be as efficient as possible with water and energy savings in commercial and residential buildings.

When it comes to fighting global warming, green buildings are an important step—nearly one-third of global emissions come from buildings. Commitments like last week’s aim to change that. [GS]
