Meet The Fastest-Growing Commercial Real Estate Firms In The Country, As Ranked By Inc. 5000

Inc. magazine released its Inc. 5000 2017 list in August, highlighting the country’s fastest-growing private companies.

This year’s list includes nearly 200 of America’s most esteemed small and midsize real estate companies. Each of the companies on the list reported revenues of $2M and up in 2016, and has experienced exponential revenue growth between 2013 and 2016. 

Here are the 10 top fastest-growing commercial real estate companies that made the cut, according to Inc. magazine:

S2 CAPITAL

Inc. Ranking: No. 72

Location: Addison, Texas

Three-Year Growth Rate: 5,000%

2016 Revenue: $57.4M

Dallas-Fort Worth-based S2 Capital is a multifamily investment firm that focuses on the acquisition of Class-B and C assets in markets across the country. Founded in 2012, the company has purchased and renovated more than 12,500 multifamily units across Texas and Florida since its inception and has a portfolio value totaling $1B. It also has invested more than $125M to upgrade and renovate assets in its portfolio.

2016 Revenue: $11M

Founded in 2013 by Bill Bennett, Level Office is a co-working concept that aims to provide better options for small businesses. The company, which offers amenity-rich co-working spaces to entrepreneurs and small companies, employs 34 people and has locations in 13 cities across the U.S., including Alexandria, Virginia, Charlotte, North Carolina, Chicago, Dallas, Denver and Houston.

NELSON BROTHERS

Location: Aliso Viejo, California

Three-Year Growth: 3,111%

2016 Revenue: $25.5M

Nelson Brothers, a real estate company focused on student housing and assisted living properties, was founded in 2007 and has grown to employ more than 100 people. With a focus on niche market assets, it owns and manages properties less likely to be affected by potential market fluctuations. In the decade since its inception, Nelson Brothers has obtained 19 student housing properties and three assisted living homes. To date, Nelson Brothers has acquired and manages more than $240M in assets spanning nine states.

MZ Capital Partners is a private equity real estate firm that owns and manages multifamily assets. Founded in 2005 by founder and managing principal Michael Zaransky, the company has six employees and specializes in investment and asset management, acquisitions and dispositions.

Location: Greenwood, Indiana

Three-Year Growth: 2,069%

2016 Revenue: $43M

The Garrett Cos. is a multifamily apartment buildings developer. Founded in 2012, the company aims to create high-end apartment communities in strong submarkets throughout the U.S., while reducing risk and maximizing returns. The firm operates with 28 employees and has completed 34 projects across 12 states.

VERIUS PROPERTY GROUP

Location: Harvey, Louisiana

Three-Year Growth: 1,719%

2016 Revenue: $3.2M

Verius Property Group handles everything from real estate development to asset management, project management and construction. The company was founded in 2011 and provides high-quality housing and real estate services. Since its inception it has bought and sold more than $20M in real estate.

The company produces a podcast, blog and books, among other resources, aimed to help real estate professionals learn tips and tricks, make connections in the industry and ultimately avoid mistakes. Founded in 2004, the company has approximately 25 full-time employees in addition to a team of volunteer moderators.

 

EXCEL GROUP

Inc. Ranking: No. 412

Location: Arlington, Virginia

Three-Year Growth: 1,060%

2016 Revenue: $57.3M

Excel Group is a real estate investment and asset management firm focused on the hospitality industry. The firm specializes in achieving risk-adjusted returns that outperform the industry average. The company owns and manages 17 hotels in the eastern U.S. and employs six.

Location: Chicago

Three-Year Growth: 1,053%

2016 Revenue: $4.1M

Founded in 2000 by U.S. Army veteran Richard M. Killian, Prospect Equities is a brokerage that now has more than 200 employees. When the firm launched, Killian was its only employee working out of a small office in southwest Chicago. The firm now functions as a franchise company and takes a full-service approach to both residential and commercial real estate.
