Prologis chief Hamid Moghadam was the highest-rated real estate executive, coming in at No. 43 overall. Ventas' Debra Cafaro ranked at No. 50 overall and was one of only two women on the list, Simon PropertiesDavid Simon ranked No. 51, and Bruce Flatt of Brookfield Asset Management came in at 73rd.

Inditex Chief Executive Pablo Isla topped the overall list, toppling WPP’s Martin Sorrell, who dropped to second place.

Harvard ranked all of the chief executives of the S&P Global 1200, an index which comprises 70% of the world’s market capitalization.

It used a combination of financial performance and environmental, social and governance credentials to come up with an overall score. The financial side strips out any overall rise in stocks in the same country or industry of the companies measured, to see how much value the chief executives have really added as opposed to general market movements.

Cafaro, Simon and Flatt performed better than Moghadam in terms of financial performance, but Moghadam scored highly in terms of environmental, social and governance performance.

CORRECTION, OCT. 31, 11:43 A.M. ET: An earlier version of this story omitted Debra Cafaro. It has been updated to reflect her standing as one of the top-ranked CEOs in real estate.
