Affordable Housing Measure Could Be On November Ballot

Backers of the Build Better LA initiative just announced they have enough signatures to put their measure on the ballot in November.

The coalition said it has gathered 100,000 signatures. The group needed around 62,000 valid signatures to qualify for the November ballot, according to the LA Times.

The Build Better LA initiative calls for LA to require developers to include affordable housing in projects seeking exemptions from zoning rules. This would include those limiting building density or height.

Backers of the initiative also want a percentage of construction jobs on the projects to go to locals.

The Build Better LA ballot measure was originally going to compete on the November ballot with the Neighborhood Integrity initiative that targets large developments, but the backers of that initiative have opted to put it on the March ballot instead. [LAT]
