LA beat out San Francisco for George Lucas' Museum of Narrative Art, which will be housed in Exposition Park.

Exposition Park is already home to the Natural History Museum, the California African American Museum and the California Science Center

The museum board said Lucas chose LA because Exposition Park will allow the museum to reach a broad and diverse group of visitors, the LA Times reports.

It has been about a decade-long endeavor to get the $1B museum off the ground, with proposed locations shifting from San Francisco to Chicago and then back to California, with LA and San Francisco trying to lure the project.

The museum will include mementos from "Star Wars" and other films and about 10,000 paintings from Lucas' personal art collection. [LAT]
