UK Government To Sublet Barclay's Canary Wharf Offices

The UK government will sublet Barclay's office in London's Canary Wharf for about 5,700 civil servants moving from Whitehall in 2018.

The government will take the whole building—about 542k SF owned by Canary Wharf Group at 10 South Colonnade—on a 15-year lease.

The move is part of the government’s consolidation plan announced earlier this year, which will replace disparate government outposts with multi-departmental offices in strategic locations with excellent public transport and local amenities. Minister for the Cabinet Office Ben Gummer said the government will continue implementing this approach across the United Kingdom, putting right the historic mistake of forcing public servants to work in “ugly and expensive buildings.”

BNP Paribas Real Estate advised the Government Property Unit.
