Squire and Partners was granted consent to develop The Fitzpatrick Building—a 170k SF office scheme for Deepdale Investment on York Way in Kings Cross, designed to offer contemporary workspace for creative small to midsized businesses.

The design was informed by the Kings Cross area—historically characterised by the machinations of transport, freight and industry, a Squire and Partners spokesperson told Bisnow.

Façades will feature expressed black metal horizontal profiles and vertical timber fins, emulating railway tracks and sleepers. Perforated metal screens to the office levels offer privacy and shade during the day, and emanate a diffused glow at night. All office floors will have access to generous cycle storage, winter gardens and, at the top level, an outdoor roof terrace.

Capable of responding to the needs of growing companies, the building is presented as an adaptable collection of working spaces, offering units ranging from 645 SF to 7k SF. At pavement level, the building activates the street with a fully glazed office reception and a public café.
