After Many Delays, Highly Anticipated Mixed-Use Project May Be Moving Forward
The long-awaited mixed-use project at Regent Square just south of Allen Parkway is finally getting some traction. After being delayed for years, Morris Architects told the Houston Business Journal building permits should be secured by Q3. 10 architects are working on the project for Boston-based developer GID. HKS, Ziegler Cooper, CBT Architects and the Office of James Burnett are all involved. Harvey Builders is the general contractor.
Regent Square is planning to have roughly 400k SF of shops and restaurant space, 240k SF of office space and 950 multifamily units. One apartment building, the Sovereign, is already complete. The walkable community is along Buffalo Bayou at Dunlavy and West Dallas.
The project was originally supposed to break ground in 2013, before the oil crash, and it's been about to restart before. When the project is completed, Regent Square will be home to an Alamo Drafthouse in the heart of the city. [HBJ]
