Baytown Continues To Boom With Chevron-Phillips Expansion

Placeholder

Chevron Phillips is expanding the production capacity at its Cedar Bayou plant in Baytown. The project will increase the capacity of low-viscosity polyalphaolefins by 10,000 metric tons per year, a 20% increase. Construction will begin in April and is expected to complete by mid-2017, the Houston Business Journal reports. The expansion will support an additional 135 construction and engineering jobs.

The petrochemical business has Baytown booming. Low oil prices dragging down the rest of Houston are feeding a $60B construction boom at east-side refineries and chemical plants flush with cheap fossil fuel prices. Petrochemical stimulus is providing a vital lifeline in the Houston area. Just don’t expect it to last. [HBJ]
