Amazon Moves To Enter Nation's Most Competitive Grocery Market

Placeholder

Amazon is preparing to open a 100K SF grocery logistics operation near the intersection of Beltway 8 and Highway 249 in Houston, according to Realty News Report. The facility would expand Amazon's last-mile distribution capacity. It is the first move from the e-commerce giant's grocery operation in Houston, long known as an extremely competitive grocery market. Some of Amazon's competitors have already upped their game, offering curbside pickup and other services.

AmazonFresh is just a part of the overall grocery strategy. Amazon's high-profile $13.7B acquisition of Whole Foods has made it a serious contender. Whole Foods operates 10 locations in the Houston area.
