Hyatt Regency To Build Hotel In Redesigned Katy Boardwalk District

Hyatt Regency was selected to build a hotel with a minimum of 300 rooms adjacent to Katy Mills Malls in Katy, according to Community Impact.

The city of Katy Monday unanimously approved an amendment for the Katy Boardwalk District, which includes a full-service conference hotel center with first-to-market entertainment concepts, luxury loft residences and a 90-acre nature preserve.

The development firm behind the Katy Boardwalk District, KBH Venture, which had released substantially different details in 2015, entered into a development agreement in December with the Katy Development Authority, according to a news release

The updated development plan includes a minimum 43K SF hotel and a parking garage to be owned and operated by KBH Venture, a franchisee of Hyatt. The hotel will also include a restaurant, a bar, a pool and a fitness center, which were all recommended by Benchmark Global Hospitality, the international hospitality management company that will operate the hotel.  

Hotel construction is expected to begin in fall and take up to two years. Gensler will design the facility, while Houston-based KDW will build it. 

The Katy Development Authority will build an on-site conference center that will be leased to KBH Venture and managed under the Hyatt Regency brand, Community Impact reports. 

Lofts at Katy Boardwalk, the residential component of the district, will feature 319 loft-style high-end residences with two resort-style pools, a fitness center, resident lounge, business center, outdoor cabanas and grilling areas and onsite management. It will also feature one- and two-bedroom units.

Sueba Construction Inc. is expected to break ground on Phase 1 this month and be completed by spring 2020. Sueba Consulting Inc. will design the community, while Southampton Management Inc. will manage it.

The retail offering will make up 155K SF and offer restaurant, bar and entertainment concepts, while also featuring 60K SF of Class-A office space, all designed by Gensler. Construction of the retail phase is expected to begin late this year, and CBRE's Lacee Jacobs has begun marketing that space.
