Hilton Houston North, in the struggling Greenspoint area, will undergo a $35M renovation to include all guest rooms and suites, common areas and meeting spaces.

“This $35M renovation and reimagination of Houston Hilton North will be a significant part of Greenspoint’s rebirth,” Complex General Manager Richard Slutter said in a statement.

The renovations will add an 18K SF ballroom with 12 salons for small group meetings. The 40K SF lobby will be updated to include a tech center, a lounge bar, a restaurant and a 15K SF Starbucks.

Set in the North Houston Business District, which has been working to recover after losing ExxonMobil several years ago, the improvements at Hilton Houston North are part of a long list of projects revitalizing the area. Public safety has been a particular focus. The North Houston District, founded as the Greenspoint Management District, has dramatically increased safety funding for a larger Sheriff's Office presence, a new Houston Police Department division in the area and increased patrols.

Those efforts have paid off. Amazon now operates an 800K SF facility close by and Lincoln Property Co. has been hard at work converting Exxon's old campus into the massive CityNorth project, investing $100M into the property that was foreclosed on after Exxon's departure.

With easy access to Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport and nearly every major Houston highway, the area is primed to return to its former glory. Still caught between The Woodlands and Downtown Houston, two of the strongest office submarkets in the area, North Houston Business' District journey back into prominence is far from over.
