The Dealmakers: Bisnow's Houston 2015 Top Retail, Land & Multifamily Brokers

Houston

We're not letting office and industrial have all the fun. We gathered Houston’s busiest retail, land and multifamily brokers as Part 2 of our top broker list. We've pulled the biggest producer from within each firm, but did not rank across companies.

JLL

Top Retail Land Broker: SVP Simmi Jaggi

Total 2015 Production: 29 transactions totaling 84 acres

Simmi enjoys working on master planned communities and tells us she had a lot of success in Aliana, Woodshore and The Woodlands, where she sold to retail big-box anchors, adding services to the communities. When she’s not finalizing deals, Simmi enjoys spending time with her two kids and doing whatever she can to get out on the water. She’s pictured above (center) with two friends in Annapolis.

Top Retail Leasing Brokers: Will Bradley & Brooks Shanklin

Total 2015 Production: 55k SF, pre-leasing additional 70k SF of inline retail

The team’s favorite deal was leasing up Exxon Mobil retail, 15k SF, with tenants opening in 2015. Will and Brooks don’t just spend time together at the office, they’re pictured here enjoying a nice dinner out with their wives Brennin and Angie

Top Retail Sales Broker: Christie Amezquita

Total 2015 Production: 44 deals

Christie closed over $44M worth of deals in 2015 and tells us her favorite deal was selling NNN Dollar Trees. In her downtime, Christie loves to travel and spend time with her two daughters and is passionate about maintaining both a successful career and a happy family.

Edge Realty Partners

Top Retail & Land Brokers: Team of Culver Stedman, Debbie Adams, Josh Jacobs, Sara Allen, Hannah Smith

Total 2015 Production: 137-plus deals

When the team isn’t closing deals, its members have full lives outside the office. Debbie enjoys listening to live music and volunteering for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, Culver loves the outdoors, Josh’s passion is race car driving, Hannah enjoys tennis and baking, and Sara welcomed her first baby girl in October.

Avison Young

Top Land/Industrial Brokers: Todd Mason & Jeff Lindenberger

Total 2015 Production: 56 transactions totaling 8.4M SF

Jeff’s favorite 2015 deal was helping United Way find a new location in Fort Bend County after searching for 18 months. The third time truly was a charm: two building sales fell through before they found the right spot, a 45k SF office building. It involved a seven-figure simultaneous lease buyout of an existing tenant, which helped make the numbers work for United Way. Todd (pictured above) tells us their biggest deal was the sale of 1M SF of industrial space in five cities on behalf of Timmons Realty. Both Todd and Jeff enjoy hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Cushman & Wakefield

Top Land Broker: EVP Jeff Peden

Total 2015 Production: 42 transactions

While Jeff closed a ton of deals in 2015, what he enjoys most are the relationships he builds with the people involved in the transactions. He tells us that whether it’s clients or fellow brokers, he loves the thrill of figuring out how to pull an unraveling deal together and get it closed. In his free time, Jeff can be found hanging out with his family and savoring time with his two sons.

Top Multifamily Broker: executive director Ed Nwokedi

Total 2015 Production: 27 transactions

Ed tells us the sale of San Antigua was the most significant deal of 2015 because it's one of his largest Class-A transactions, but it also had some unusual characteristics. The owner principals had a buy-back clause with their JV equity, forcing him to find a very aggressive buyer that would bid a much higher price to avoid the conflict. Ed and his two sons (sporting Texas gear above) recently traveled to West Africa to install solar panel kits in rural village homes, providing residents with electricity for the first time.
